Florida man allegedly flees police, faces drug possession charge

A Florida man was recently arrested after police say that he attempted to flee a routine traffic stop. Collier deputies arrested the 23-year-old Golden Gate Estates man on a recent Monday. He is now facing a slew of charges, including a drug possession charge.

Police say they attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the man, who they say was speeding on a local road just before 11 p.m. Police claim that he was driving 87 miles per hour in a 45 miles per hour zone. They activated their sirens and lights and attempted to stop the allegedly speeding vehicle.

The man’s vehicle continued to speed away, police say. Eventually, the man pulled over and explained to the officers that he was speeding only because he had to be home by 11 p.m. During a search of the man’s vehicle, deputies located marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. The man stated that the drugs discovered were not, in fact, his.

The accused man has yet to be convicted of anything and he will have every right to contest both the police’s accusations as well as the proof on which the accusations are based.
