Florida man faces prescription drug crime charges

When people in Florida think of crime, their minds often go to young people. However, it is not uncommon for older people to face criminal accusations such as prescription drug crime and possession of a controlled substance. This is what happened recently to a man from Okeechobee.

According to a report, the man who was arrested by Florida officials on prescription drug crime charges was 67 years old at the time of his arrest. Police say that the man sold drugs to undercover agents on at least three occasions. The drugs that he sold included oxycodone and heroin, the arrest report asserts.

Prior to this incident, the man at the center of this prescription drug crime case also faced similar charges in 2010 and 2011. In those cases, the man was said to have received more than 2,500 pills from multiple doctors and pharmacies across Florida. As a result of those arrests, the accused man was issued penalties that included probation and some jail time. It is not clear what, if any, penalties he will face as a result of his recent arrest.

What is clear is that the man who has been accused of prescription drug crime charges will be able to present a full defense against the claims being made against him. Like everyone in our state who stands accused of a crime, the man here will be allowed to question all aspects of the alleged drug buys that led to his arrest. This effort can pay off for people when they are able to avoid the harshest penalties.
