12 accused of heroin drug trafficking

Eleven individuals allegedly involved in a heroin drug trafficking operation that authorities think involved selling the drug from restaurant parking lots were recently arrested on federal drug charges. Authorities announced on a recent Thursday the takedown of these individuals, who operated a drug network in west Orange County. When Florida individuals are similarly facing drug trafficking charges, they may decide to consult with experienced criminal defense attorneys.

The network allegedly sold over two pounds of heroin per week in an area near Orlando’s tourist corridor, the U.S. State Attorney’s Office says. The group reputedly sold around 200 plastic baggies containing the drug to dealers — sometimes undercover agents — for around $10 apiece, a federal criminal complaint that detailed the allegations stated. The investigation, which lasted around a year, resulted a dozen individuals facing federal drug charges. Officials estimate that the group grossed over $3 million per year.

The members of this group ranged in age from 21 to 64, and all are Orlando residents. Eleven were recently arrested, but one of the group’s reputed leaders, a 41-year-old man, is still thought to be at large. The drug sting is the latest in an intensified battle that seeks to eradicate heroin on the street. Since December, there have been two other large-scale stings.

All 11 of these individuals face a variety of drug-related charges. However, they will also each be entitled to a criminal defense and legal representation at every stage of the proceedings. Because drug trafficking violations come with severe penalties, those in Florida accused of these crimes typically choose to consult with an experienced defense attorney to provide guidance and support in defending against the accusations.
