Drug trafficking charge made against 3 Florida men

A Florida apartment complex supposedly known for drugs and crime was the recent site of an arrest of three local men. All of the men were charged with drug trafficking and were taken into custody by Melbourne police. During the arrest, one of the accused was shot by a local police officer and suffered non-life threatening injuries, though the specific details of that incident were not further detailed, except to say the police officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

Florida police say that they bought prescription pills over the course of a month-long investigation. The investigation began after authorities say they received multiple complaints about drug sales in the area. In addition to the drugs, the men have been charged with possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony.

The prescription drugs were described as oxycodone. The men are accused of selling over 28 grams, enough for them to face felony drug trafficking charges. The drug charges, along with the other crimes for which they are accused, carry a minimum mandatory sentence of 25 years in prison if a conviction is obtained.

Though the men in this case have been charged with serious crimes, they remain innocent of all charges. In fact, they will not face penalties related to these drug trafficking charges unless and until a court of law is convinced of their guilt by a measure of proof that is described as beyond a reasonable doubt. Prior to that occurring, all of the men are fully entitled to present a defense against the formal charges. In view of the potential for a life-altering prison term, each will want to challenge the testimony and evidence offered against them, while fighting to protect all of their legal rights.
